Notice that when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s advice not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil or they would certainly die, they were stripped of their original energy signature and their mantle of light or angelic garment, and they fell from their immortal condition into a world where they would perpetually face persecution, hardship, and spiritual and physical death. In this transaction they exchanged their divine state for a state of slavery; Thus, they did not become gods as promised by the Serpent and what they actually were in the garden, but rather, they were taken hostage by Satan.
Genesis 2:16-17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 3:4-5 “Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Naturally, Adam and Eve did not yet have the judgement required to discern between good and evil without God’s help and the Serpent knew very well that this would lead to their downfall. Satan therefore did not intend to educate Adam and Eve but rather humiliate them before God, being convinced that any soul tested by his hand would eventually turn against God, (read Job chapters 1 and 2).
Beyond the fact that Adam and Eve disobeyed God to follow the Serpent thus breaking their allegiance to God, when God asked them what they had done in the garden, Adam blamed “the woman God had given him” thus sharing the blame between not only Eve but God as well. Eve in turn blamed the Serpent, indicating that he had seduced or deceived her.
From the beginning of creation, it was understood that the price of sin was the spiritual death of the soul. The tool for administering the spiritual legal system of the Tree of Good and Evil where souls now find themselves is the Book of Law. This book provides no forgiveness for sins. Furthermore, the application of the Book of the Law is under the purview of the rulers of the world, namely Satan and the rebel angels (Ephesians 6:12 the principalities, authorities, princes of the world of darkness, wicked spirits in the heavenly places). Thus, the world system under Satan’s rule offers no way out of the curse of sin. Since souls are born in the fallen world, in flesh bodies which distances them from God, they begin their life imbued with sin and they are already condemned to die in sin (read the blog What is sin?).
After some time, sufficient time for humanity to realize that it could not set itself free through any amount of good works because there was no provision in the Book of the Law for the forgiveness of sin through good works or the sacrifices of animals or humans begotten in, and by the flesh, in the fallen world therefore born in sin, therefore impure sacrifices, God sent His Son Jesus Christ, who accepted to be sacrificed for the sins of humanity.
As mentioned, it is important to note that the Book of the Law does provide for the atonement of sins through a perfect and acceptable sacrifice. However, such a perfect and acceptable sacrifice could only come from outside the sinful and fallen world system to avoid being tainted by the world to begin with. While Jesus Christ was born in the flesh, He who was with God from the very beginning, His soul came directly from God before being incarnated in the world through God’s Holy Spirit. He was born without sin from the union of the Holy Spirit and the flesh and not the flesh alone. Through the Holy Spirit, He remained with God while in the flesh and in the world.
John 8: 58 « Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. »
Leviticus 17: 11 « For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. »
Leviticus 22: 19-20 « You shall offer of your own free will a male without blemish from the cattle, from the sheep, or from the goats. Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it shall not be acceptable on your behalf. »
Willingly giving His life on the cross, Jesus thus paid the price so that all souls who would accept His sacrifice as payment for their sins would be freed from the world and from the Law of death for sin thus breaking the chains keeping the souls captive in the kingdom of darkness. He thus opened the only way out of the world, the only way out of perpetual condemnation and death.
Since Adam had been created by God in His own image, from clay and from His breath of Life (the Holy Spirit), he was a “creation” of God in the flesh. Jesus Christ who already existed with God before His birth was the Son of God and, having been begotten by God in the flesh through Mary also became the Son of Man; He became the second Adam, albeit a divine one, and a bridge between Man and God, between the material and the divine.
When He incarnated into the world, Jesus was tested in the desert by Satan, but unlike Eve, he did not allow himself to be seduced or deceived and resisted Satan. Furthermore, although he was innocent of all sin, He courageously agreed to bear all the sins of humanity and give His life as a sacrifice to save all souls, thus reversing Adam’s legacy who, once confronted by God in the garden, blamed Eve and God for his sin. Additionally, while Jesus endured suffering on the cross, He never blamed God for the trials Satan put Him through. Thus, through His life and through His death Jesus reversed both Adam and Eve’s legacy and taught us how to overcome the world in order to leave it and regain our former divine condition.
Aside from turning against God through their disobedience, doubting God and choosing to believe the Serpent, Adam and Eve’s lack of admission regarding their guilt, their lack of repentance when questioned by God in the garden and their unwillingness to sacrifice themselves to cover each other’s sin, is at the heart of their fall.
Alternatively, Jesus through His actions, shows us how to overcome the world and return home. He asks us to imitate Him and follow Him on the straight and narrow path leading out of the fallen Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, in the process becoming “living sacrifices in order to save all souls”.
Matthew 4:1-11 – Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.”
Memorize the above verses should you be put to the test in the same fashion. Further, forgive all souls along your path for whatever persecution they foist on you and pray for them – don’t turn against one of your own, the souls – these souls are not free, they are being used by the system against you and they actually need your help. This is often easier said than done as the further you progress, the worse Satan’s efforts to make you fall get – (again read Job chapters 1 and 2). You cannot help any soul unless you successfully overcome the trials without falling and, lack of forgiveness and bitterness unfortunately often lead to a fall. Remember that you are never alone and that God is walking with you and in Him you can regain your strength:
Psalm 23 – A psalm of David
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Remember that the captive souls are also God’s children in the making and God loves them. Jesus did mention that He came to save what was lost.
Matthew 5:44–45:
“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Luke 9:56
“For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives (souls in the Louis Segond Bible), but to save them.”
